Special General Meeting – Please Attend!

Friday, September 19, 2014, 7:00 p.m. • Delwood Hall

Coffee & Donuts will be served.

Delwood Community Members over 18 years of age are asked to attend. Memberships will be available to purchase at the meeting. QUORUM IS NEEDED.

______________________________

A couple of years ago, we reroofed the west side of the hall. We now need to look to the east side — more complicated with two different roof surfaces. The Community League has been working with an architect to consider our options.

Delwood Hall needs to upgrade and repair leaks on the two east roofs; reduce ability of kids climbing on the roof causing damage and graffiti to the property; and close off the outside alcove next to the main doors to reduce graffiti, littering, and smoking too close to the entrance.

Three solutions were presented at the AGM in March 2014, in the June 2014 Delwood Views and an Open House. A decision is now needed by the General Membership.

This decision requires a majority vote of the General Membership of Delwood and not the Executive Board. To view more detailed designs before the meeting, go to delwood.ca or you can see them in the hall foyer at the Delwood Fall Festival (September 13, 2014). This is a big decision that will affect the Delwood Community for years to come.

As with all General Meetings, we require Quorum to hold a vote. We look forward to seeing you at the Special General Meeting, Friday, September 19, 2014.

Option 1 – Create one continuous sloped roof line (similar to west side), add east parapet and new vestibule       $160,746

Option 1A – Add east parapet and new vestibule, resurface flat roof  $117,054

option 1

Option 2 – Create one continuous sloped roof line (similar to west side), new entry and canopy, add east parapet $194,819

OPTION 2_email

Option 3 – New 800 sq. ft. second floor, staircase, new vestibule, add east parapet      $333,024

OPTION 3_email

There will be a general meeting called in the next few months to further discuss our options and get direction from the community. In the mean time, we would appreciate any  feedback.

Please send your comments to info@delwood.ca. There will also be a comment box at the Hall.

Mid-September in Delwood

This next week is an exciting and busy one for Delwood Community League.

Don’t miss out on our exciting Delwood Fall Festival on Saturday, September 13. It is an exciting day full of fun and interesting activities for everyone. It kicks off at noon with a bicycle parade around Delwood Park and School. There are prizes for best costume! This is followed by a day of excitement with a busy market area, kids activities, dance and karate demonstrations, roller derby, professional wrestling, a beer garden, and, of course, fireworks to finish off the evening.

This week also sees Indoor Soccer Registration Saturday noon to 4pm at the Fall Festival and again on Sept 17 6:30 to 8:30 in Delwood Hall.

And, finally, we are having a Special General Meeting on Sept. 19 at 7pm at Delwood Hall. Coffee and donuts will be served. The community has some important decisions to make regarding renovations to the hall and also to decide on the budget for the Delwood 50th Anniversary Celebration in June 2015. This meeting requires quorum, so if you are a Delwood Community Member over 18 years old, we need to have you there. The executive cannot make these decisions alone.
